Robert Stock anchored the Mets with a scoreless start and earned the win. The bullpen carried that advantage forward, with Dedniel Nunez, Kodai Senga, Daniel Duarte, Nate Lavender and Chris Devenski helping protect the margin.
Bo Bichette scored on Mark Vientos’ ground-ball double play in the fourth, giving New York the lead. Vientos later homered in the seventh, and Francisco Alvarez’s single brought Cristian Pache home to extend the advantage.
Tampa Bay finally broke through in the eighth. Taylor Walls scored on Liam Hicks’ single, and Jonathan Aranda crossed the plate on Chandler Simpson’s single. The Rays’ comeback stopped there, however, as Kodai Senga closed the game.
The Mets extended their winning streak, while Tampa Bay’s losing streak continued. The late rally gave the Rays a chance, but New York’s early control of the game endured.
