Juan Soto supplied the finishing touch with a home run that extended the Mets’ advantage. Brett Baty also provided a major offensive contribution, while Marcus Semien and Jared Young helped shape the early attack.
Jared Young’s sharp ground-ball single brought Bo Bichette and Carson Benge home in the opening inning, giving New York the lead. Marcus Semien’s double then brought Young across. Brett Baty’s double later brought Bichette, Semien and A.J. Ewing home, and Nick Morabito’s double brought Benge, Young and Semien across in the seventh. Soto’s homer added insurance in the eighth.
The Rays answered through Jonathan Aranda, Cedric Mullins and Richie Palacios, whose homer brought Tampa Bay back into the contest. Palacios provided the loudest response, but the offense could not sustain the pressure against New York’s pitching. Dedniel Nunez earned the win, while Nate Lavender added a scoreless relief appearance.
New York extended its winning streak, while Tampa Bay’s losing streak continued. The game belonged to the Mets’ early burst, with their late insurance leaving little room for a comeback.
