Jonathan Aranda supplied the standout performance, homering in the fourth and again in the seventh while helping Tampa Bay keep its offense moving. Richie Palacios also provided a major spark with a homer in the third.

Victor Mesa Jr. gave Tampa Bay the lead in the first when his triple brought Yandy Díaz and Junior Caminero home. Victor Mesa Jr. later scored on Chandler Simpson’s groundout. In the third, Jonny DeLuca reached on a fielding error and Victor Mesa Jr. scored, before Richie Palacios’ homer brought Chandler Simpson and Jonny DeLuca across.

Freddy Peralta gave the Rays a scoreless start, and Tampa Bay continued adding on after his departure. Hayden Wesneski took the loss for Houston after the Rays broke through against him early. The Astros got homers from Isaac Paredes, Nick Allen and Nelson Velazquez, but those answers came well after Tampa Bay had established control.

The one-inning burst defined the afternoon: Tampa Bay created separation immediately, then kept Houston from turning its late power into a threat.
