Cronenworth was the game’s central figure, homering twice and driving the Padres’ offense throughout the afternoon. Fernando Tatis also supplied a home run, while Samad Taylor provided extra-base production.
Cronenworth’s homer brought Xander Bogaerts home and gave San Diego the lead in the second. In the fourth, Cronenworth doubled to bring Jackson Merrill across, then Samad Taylor’s double brought Cronenworth home. After Javier Sanoja’s three-run homer brought Miami close in the seventh, Tatis homered to extend the Padres’ lead. Cronenworth’s later homer, with Bogaerts scoring, added insurance.
Walker Buehler worked into the seventh and earned the win, while San Diego’s relief effort kept Miami from completing its comeback. Sandy Alcantara took the loss after allowing San Diego to build its early advantage.
The Padres extended their winning streak, while the Marlins’ losing streak continued. The game belonged to San Diego because its early power created room for the bullpen to withstand Miami’s late answer.
