Lopez, 32, has been one of the Braves' most reliable arms this season, going 4-3 with a 3.64 ERA across 24 appearances, including 11 starts. He has struck out 66 batters over 71.7 innings while posting a 1.34 WHIP, with 67 hits and 29 earned runs allowed. He also appeared in one game as a batter this season, going hitless in his only plate appearance.
Atlanta sits atop the NL East with a 67-45 record and a winning percentage of .598, riding a five-game winning streak. The Braves' pitching staff currently carries 13 arms on the roster, and Lopez's absence will test that depth as the club looks to maintain its divisional lead.
Lopez reached 50 career wins earlier this season, hitting that milestone on June 7. The IL placement follows an injury report logged a day earlier, on Aug. 2, and comes after Lopez had rejoined Atlanta's active roster in mid-April following a roster removal in late April.
