For seven innings, this looked like a game Cleveland would win with one run. Then the eighth inning arrived, and the Diamondbacks turned a nothing lead into a four-run explosion that buried the Guardians 4-1 at Progressive Field.

Tanner Bibee did his part. He worked 7.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs (2 earned) with 3 strikeouts and a single walk. It was the kind of start that wins most nights. This was not most nights. Bibee took the loss, falling to 4-11 on the season with a 3.81 ERA.
The Guardians led 1-0 into the eighth after Rhys Hoskins singled to left in the first inning to bring home Ramírez, a go-ahead hit that held up deep into the game. Arizona finally broke through when Perdomo singled to right and Tawa scored to tie it at 1-1. Moments later, Moreno singled to right, and Carroll and Waldschmidt both scored on a fielding error by right fielder Martínez, putting Arizona ahead 3-1. Marte added another run-scoring single, plating Perdomo to make it 4-1.
Cleveland's bullpen could not contain the damage in the eighth, with the relief corps combining to allow 2 runs (1 earned) over 1.2 innings. Arizona starter Mitch Bratt had departed after 5.0 innings, having allowed 3 hits and 1 run, and the Diamondbacks bullpen finished the job by tossing 4.0 shutout innings. Jonathan Loaisiga worked a scoreless inning to pick up the win, improving to 3-3, and Brandyn Garcia closed it out for his third save of the season.
Arizona improved to 58-52, extending its winning streak to three games. Cleveland fell to 56-55, its second straight loss.
