It took extra innings and a lead that changed hands five times, but the New York Mets finally pulled away from the Cleveland Guardians, winning 6-5 in 10 innings at Progressive Field. Neither team could hold an advantage for long, and it was fitting that the decisive run came on a two-out single in the 10th.

Bo Bichette delivered the go-ahead hit, singling to right to score Lindor and give New York a 6-5 lead it would not relinquish, according to the final go-ahead play. Bichette finished 1-for-5 with an RBI on the night, and remains 8 shy of the 500-RBI milestone for his career. Chayce McDermott worked 2.0 scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits while striking out two, and picked up his first career win. Daniel Duarte closed it out with a scoreless inning for his first save of the season.
The game swung back and forth from the third inning on. Brett Baty put New York ahead with a solo homer to left center in the third, and Jorge Polanco followed with a homer of his own to make it 2-0. Jared Young's double in the fourth brought home Benge to extend the lead to 3-0, but Cleveland answered with Travis Bazzana's single that scored Adell. The Guardians tied it at 3-3 in the fifth when Nathaniel Lowe's single brought home both Genao and Kwan. Benge's homer in the sixth put the Mets back on top 4-3, only for Cleveland to retake the lead in the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles from Patrick Bailey and Angel Genao, making it 4-5. New York tied it again in the ninth at 5-5 after Young scored on a fielding error by Rocchio before Bichette's 10th-inning single settled matters.
Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee was brilliant for much of the night, striking out 10 over 5.2 innings while allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits with no walks. He was named game MVP for the performance despite not factoring into the decision. The loss instead fell to Matt Festa, who surrendered the go-ahead run in the ninth and was charged with the defeat, dropping to 2-3 on the season with a 4.27 ERA. New York starter Christian Scott allowed 3 runs on 6 hits over 5.0 innings, striking out seven.
The result snapped a two-game winning streak for Cleveland, which fell to 57-58, while New York improved to 49-66 on a win streak that has now reached two games.
