Payton Tolle was the story on the mound. The right-hander worked six innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 run while striking out 14. He walked none. It was more than enough support for an offense that piled up 15 hits, and it improved him to 7-6 with a 3.20 ERA. The bullpen backed him up by covering the final three innings without allowing a run.

Boston's decisive burst came in the second. Jarren Duran homered to left center, scoring Monasterio, to put the Red Sox ahead 2-0 and give them a lead they would not relinquish. Jake Rogers doubled in Seigler to make it 3-0, and Wilyer Abreu followed with a double that brought home both Rogers and Sogard for a 5-0 lead. The fourth inning was more of the same: Rogers scored on a pickoff error by pitcher Juenger, Abreu singled in Sogard, Masataka Yoshida doubled in Abreu, and Andruw Monasterio's single brought home Yoshida to push the score to 9-0. Boston tacked on more in the sixth and seventh, with sacrifice flies from Durbin and Yoshida and RBI hits from Rafaela and Durbin extending the margin to 13-1.

Oakland starter Jack Perkins lasted just 3 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits with 3 walks, and took the loss to fall to 2-8 with a 7.04 ERA. The Athletics' only run came in the fifth when Tyler Soderstrom homered to right center. Oakland's bullpen was stretched thin the rest of the way, allowing 8 runs over 5 innings as the deficit grew beyond reach.

The win extended Boston's winning streak to nine games, improving the Red Sox to 64-51. Oakland's skid reached nine straight losses, dropping the Athletics to 45-71.
