Willson Contreras carried the offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and a walk. His fifth-inning shot to left, a 342-foot drive, extended Boston's lead to 5-0. He is now 3 shy of 200 career home runs. Ceddanne Rafaela added three hits and three doubles worth of production, driving in a run, while Caleb Durbin also collected three hits and scored twice. Mickey Gasper went deep as well, a 343-foot homer in the seventh, and finished with 2 RBIs.
Boston never trailed. Eli White's single in the second scored Durbin to open the scoring and put the Red Sox ahead for good, part of a two-run inning that also saw Nick Sogard double home White. The Red Sox kept adding on: Durbin's single brought in Contreras in the third, Rafaela's double scored Sogard in the fourth, and a five-run stretch across the fifth and sixth innings, capped by RBI hits from Wilyer Abreu and Adley Rutschman, pushed the margin well out of reach. Gasper's homer and another Abreu single in the seventh closed out the scoring.
