Valdez was the story for seven innings. He allowed five hits and no runs, walked two and struck out five over 7.0 innings, working around traffic without ever letting the Mariners push a run across. The Tigers' bullpen finished the job, with two relievers combining for two scoreless innings to close out the shutout.
