He opened the scoring for New York with a solo homer to left center in the second inning, then delivered a two-run single in the fifth to help push the lead further. Torrens, Semien and Lindor combined to account for the bulk of New York's power on the night.
Cleveland opened the scoring in the first when Martínez singled to center, plating both DeLauter and Ramírez for a 2-0 lead. But the Mets responded immediately. Semien's solo homer in the second cut it to 2-1, and two batters later Torrens went deep to right, scoring Wagaman ahead of him to put New York in front 3-2 for good, the game's decisive swing per the final go-ahead play. Benge added a run on a triple in the third, and Semien's sacrifice fly made it 5-2. Cleveland briefly clawed back within one run when Lowe's three-run homer in the fifth cut the deficit to 6-5, but the Mets pulled away for good with a three-run seventh capped by Lindor's homer and a four-run eighth that featured RBI knocks from Alvarez, Young, Torrens and Bichette.
Guardians starter Foster Griffin lasted four innings, allowing 5 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits with 6 strikeouts and took the loss, falling to 12-4. Cleveland's bullpen was unable to slow the bleeding, combining for 8 runs across 5.0 innings of work. Nolan McLean picked up the win for New York despite allowing 5 runs (5 earned) over 5.0 innings with 8 strikeouts, improving to 8-7, while the Mets bullpen held Cleveland to 1 run over 4.0 innings the rest of the way.
New York won its third straight, improving to 50-66, while Cleveland dropped to 57-59 and has now lost three in a row. Bo Bichette went 2-for-5 with an RBI double and now sits at 493 career RBIs, 7 shy of the 500 mark.
